Thyroiditis

Thyroiditis is diagnosed whenever blood tests determine high levels of one or more anti-thyroid antibodies: it is called auto-immune thyroiditis or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

Sometimes, it can be diagnosed through the specific results of ultrasound scanning; afterwards blood tests are prescribed to receive confirmation...

Patients are often unaware of undergoing an inflammation of the thyroid gland, therefore, they are informed by doctors that they suffer from thyroiditis, that their anti-bodies are “attacking” their thyroid, that the latter will be gradually destroyed and, then, hypothyroidism will be inevitable.

After getting to this point, doctors will suggest a lifelong hormonal therapy.

Neverthless, the above mentioned paradigm according to which thyroiditis gradually destroys the thyroid, thus bringing about hypothyroidism is not confirmed by the lasting experience of Biological Medicine.

At the Broussais Medical Centre, thyroiditis has been treated along with the elimination of hormones in many patients who have not developed hypotiroidism over the years, thus keeping on enjoying a healthy thyroid functioning.

Each of the aforementioned cases have been rigorously documented.

In case of thyroiditis, first of all, it is necessary to pinpoint the mechanisms that have given rise to the malfunctioning. Secondly, rebalancing the functionality of the immune system is fundamental.

In order to achieve this objective, Biological Medicine makes use of several kinds of therapy that the staff of our Medical Center selects according to the results of the functional check-up of the patient.

In the treatment of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, biological protocols sometimes allow to reset the number of antibodies or, in difficult cases, to lower their level and keep it under control without making use of synthetic hormones.

However, what is even more important is that Biological Medicine manages to protect the thyroid and its healthy functioning in spite of antibodies.
